Butterfly

Innocent youth,  ever trusting in a cruel world

Freshly emerged from a cocoon of adolescence

Beauty with shining eyes looking for hope and happiness

A crooked smile, gentle face hid a monster

Venomous fangs latched in, ripping new wings before she ever could fly

Bloody stamps of a life that could have been

Settle for the dregs of the gutter

Hopelessness in every day, dreams turned to nightmares

Fall again and again, too tired to rise

The promise of happiness nothing compared to the reality of days

Berated, broken, abused

The lost butterfly crawled away to die

All a part of a plan to keep the truth away

That she had re-grown her wings

And at any moment could take flight
